Week 35-26 Years Ago...

On May 8, 1991, Ryan Scott Hutchins was born at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California.  As the day leaned into night, our baby boy was not doing well.  After a wise ICU nurse who happened to be on the main floor nursery that evening recognized certain signs of distress, a  pediatric doctor on call determined that Ryan had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and he was quickly transferred by ambulance to Oakland Children's Hospital. Rick and his dad drove behind the ambulance while I had to stay overnight at John Muir Hospital.  I remember it being one of the loneliest and scariest nights of my life followed by many, many blessings and prayers.

During that week, Ryan was supposed to have a shunt placed in his head if the hemorrhage would not dissipate; however, our prayers were answered and on the day of the surgery, it did just that so no surgery was necessary. Ryan became our little miracle for which we are so grateful.  Today is Mother's Day and it marks 26 years since our little miracle was born.  Happy Birthday Ryan!

Everyday of our lives as women, we nurture, calm, carry, comfort, strengthen, and love those we mother.   Sometimes prayers are answered and miracles happen; sometimes not.  Even when the load may be heavy to bear and carry at times, I am privileged to do so.  What a lucky woman am I.

Ryan was the biggest baby at Oakland Children's
Hospital though he looks so tiny in this picture.
Rick's parents hold Ryan.  They gave Rick and I
such great support and love during this hard time.
Jaclyn & Juliann are in a photo for Ryan to see them
and on Mother's Day they made a pretty
picture for me to take to the hospital.
