Surely Shirley
Surely Shirley would want us
to walk in the crisp morning air to notice
the tree leaves fluttering and
the fresh flowers brightening our way.
Surely she would enthusiastically encourage us
to exercise and dance thru life;
to dress in something that makes us
feel pretty while celebrating a new day.
Surely Shirley would have us witness
life's blessings making the hard challenges
somehow softer, lighter;
to see God's hand as she reached out with hers.
Surely she would teach us
to share our hearts with one another
to be present in the art of loving,
giving, receiving, and sharing. . .
for that is surely how Shirley lived.
