Day 24-Contentment

I sway you slowly in my arms,
and gently lay you down to sleep.
Your small hands still stay snug in mine;
your eyes, trusting, softly close
to visions of your caring heart.
"Dream of angels" I whisper.

A mother's love is content.

A smile sweeps across your lips,
as you settle down to nap.
What grand thoughts pass through your mind;
is heaven yet in view?
"Dream of angels" I whisper.

A mother's love is content.

I hear you breathing in and out,
and watch you while you sleep.
I can't believe you are mine;
what a precious gift.
"Dream of angels" I whisper.

A mother's love is content.

I am always by your side
to protect you while you sleep
and to guide you while you wake.
To comfort and to love you
I am your angel here on Earth.

A mother's love is content.

The first stanza to this poem I created in the winter of 1987 which I wrote in Jaclyn's childhood journal. Today I created more stanzas while thinking of the new babies that have blessed our family this year:  our grandson, Hugh, born on February 14 and our great niece, Charlee Joan, born on September 20.  Mothers are children's angels on Earth and babies are pure contentment.
