Every Easter we fill each cup with water,
vinegar and dye.
We dip each boiled egg carefully
into a cup
and watch it change from white to bright,
bold red or Robin's egg blue or Daffodil yellow.
From lighter tints to darker shades,
we observe the subtle changes of time.
The violet egg becomes a deep purple hue
as the seconds tick by.
When coloring our Easter eggs,
we imagine my mother
looking on from heaven
where colors there are beyond compare.
We remember my mother
slowly spooning the colored water
gently over one egg at a time
as she delighted in her delicate creations.
She surely wants us to pause and ponder
these pure joys in life.
We may be apart a little while,
but as Jesus Christ died for us
and rose on the third day
so we may be together once again
with each other and with Him.
My mom loved to color Easter eggs.
She passed away in 2000 and I have no doubt
she watches over us, her delicate creations,
and smiles colorful rainbows upon us from heaven
