Week 11-Words Not Enough

Words fail to describe
the terror that turned
the City of Light to
sheer darkness and dread.

People, young and old,
enjoying either a dinner,
a concert, or a soccer
match at the beginning
of the weekend never
expecting the horror
about to unfold.

Across vast ocean, land and time,
I sat with a group of friends
around a lovely dining room table.
Sunshine streamed in upon us
while discussing The Unlikely
Pilgrimage of Harold Fry when
I received a text from a friend:
Have you seen the news?
Multiple terrorist attacks in Paris!

Most of us will recall
where we were on 9/11
and I believe we will
do the same on 11/13.
Our minds hardly able
to comprehend this
could happen to a place
loved by so many to people
sharing moments of joy
with friends just as
we were doing then
far, far away.

With their lives gone and
their voices silenced, we
must stand together to make
them seen, heard, and not
forgotten.  In the normalcy
of our days or our discouraging
nights, we need to seek goodness
and light and to show gratitude
and love; faith and kindness;
compassion and peace.

Darkness may surround us,
but our light from within
strengthens and gives us
courage to fight against
evil and to "press forward
with a steadfastnessness in Christ
having a perfect brightness of hope".
