Week 6-Notice the Toast, Part 2 or Grandmotherhood

Slipping into shoes
just our size
comfy, cozy,
wearing them in,
kicking them off,
easing back in
even after years
of not wearing,
fitting just right.

Such is the life
of a grandma
filling the slippers
of someone no one
can replace while
mommy is away
for a short time,
but doing our
best to try.

Recalling readily
pats on the cheek,
hugs around the neck,
laughter that rings
in the air with their
smiles dancing about,
children then and
grandchildren now.

Wiping away tears,
cleaning up messes,
brushing teeth, reading
bounds of books,
saying sweet prayers,
kissing goodnight....
loving, caring, and
feeling blessed.

Our grown children
giving us grandchildren
to capture precious
moments once more,
touching our hearts
with nurturing and
longing of years
gone too swift--
only to realize
how much these
precious, even if
tiring, times
would be missed.

As I contemplate how fast a week goes, especially when taking care of busy grandchildren, I understand, though I still don't like it, how weeks become months and months become years.  I emphasized in last week's post that I wanted to Notice the Toast, the everyday things in life, while taking care of my grandchildren.  Author Brene` Brown encourages us to "take photos of everyday ordinary things you are grateful for in your life" for these are what will mean the most.  I have found that the "ordinary becomes extraordinary" when looking back~

Mae scored a terrific goal along with her kindred
friend Averie on Tuesday after Cheer/Tumbling.
They won 4-1.  Henry and Hugh
enjoyed the playground too.
Henry's swimming lessons, Chick-Fil-A, cookies
baked by Dana, and decorating bats, ghosts and
pumpkins makes for a simply fun day!
Henry loves his Ninja Turtle, Huey looks as if
he is doing the motions to the song
"I am a little tea pot".
We pack Henry's bag to go on a trip to Colorado to see
Uncle Spencer and Auntie Jessica with Papa Jon &
Grandma Stephanie, but during the night Henry gets
sick with the tummy flu.  Fortunately, he has
12 hours to recover so he still gets to go.
Henry takes it easy as his tummy recovers and then
leaves Thursday night on his trip.  Mae wakes up
Friday very excited for her first grade field trip
to the Rowley's Red Barn in Santaquin, Utah.
That same day Huey and I meet Grandma Joan
to go to WitchFest at Gardner's Village in
West Jordan, Utah and then have lunch.
When Mae gets home, Mae, Huey and I meet
Chad and Jenessa for a shopping date to Target
to spend Mae's birthday gift card.  Mae finds a
toy parrot who chirps and records her voice.  Ryan
stays with us having flown in for a job interview.
Saturday finds us at the Curiosity Museum at
Thanksgiving Point where we run into
Myra Lynch and Taylor Ranieri.
Going on a Tiger Hunt or Swimming in the Sea!
See Saw, Magic Show, Wind Tunnel, and
Feeding Fish are just a few of the fun things
we like to do at the Curiosity Museum.
Saturday afternoon, we made tortellini soup for
Chad and Jenessa, picked up Mae's bike that
had been in the shop, dropped off the soup,
and ate dessert first at Waffle Love!
Yummy Hawaiian Haystacks and fun questions/games
with Chad, Jenessa, Ryan, Aley, Mae, Huey and me
make for a great evening!
Love being a wife, mother, and grandma!
