Pioneer Day is an official holiday celebrated on July 24 in Utah; it commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847. Parades, fireworks, rodeos, and other celebrations make the day special. Latter-day Saints throughout the world may celebrate too.
I remember many summers celebrating Pioneer Day in Saint Johns, Arizona with my grandparents, Grover and Jeffie Brown. I loved to eat good food at the Camparama, watch the parade, gather candy thrown by people on the floats, go to the rodeo and attend the dance. Today Brett and Juliann's family celebrated the 24th by watching Mae participate in the Spanish Fork, Utah parade with her cheerleading group and then they had a BBQ. I wish I could have been there too.
