Three redwoods
grow outside
my back door:
strong,
straight
and tall.
Weathering storms,
celebrating sunlight
for fifty years
or more;
mere youngsters
in tree years.
They stand as the
tallest trees on Earth.
Only grown on
the Pacific Coast:
sturdy in stature
and nature.
Each one tagged
with a medal of honor,
a historical beauty:
treasured,
steadfast,
a life to emulate.
Reaching
toward heaven,
wrapping
the landscape
in warmth and beauty,
a compass to follow.
