Day 364-Change of Seasons

Day 1 of my countdown means that tomorrow marks a year of writing my daily Mommeries blog and also signals a change to how I may approach it as I continue writing, but alas that will be tomorrow's blog.  For now, I want to talk about what I am thankful for today~

Though it was warm outside when walking with friends in the morning and warmer still in the afternoon, I felt like putting out fall decorations. Tomorrow is September 1, school has started, I am ready to settle down, and make a routine happen with the fun wedding months of summer behind as I look forward to breathing the crisp morning air, playing tennis or walking wearing a zippered jacket, sipping hot chocolate, baking pot pies, and cuddling in warm, soft blankets.  Autumn colors are soothing, not bright like summer, nor sullen like winter; they are warm, welcoming, inviting, and gentle like leaves falling from the trees in a breeze.

Life constantly changes like the seasons perhaps not every quarter, but there is an ebb and flow, allowing us to adapt, adjust, correct, improve, organize, regroup. Sudden changes are difficult when an unexpected storm rolls in with thunder and lightning.  I prefer softer changes, who wouldn't?  I can already taste the cinnamon-sugar apple donuts from Apple Hill solidifying for me that fall is here and the holidays when family gathers are just around the bend.

When I decorate my home, the rooms transform in anticipation for the season to come in full radiance.  I look upon the fall decorations and can imagine the fire glowing in the fireplace and feel its heat on my feet.   In my mind, it is not quite time for slippers yet, but I may get them anyway as I turn the page of my book all cozy smelling the hot cider simmering on the stove as autumn knocks on my door.
