Some critics have said the movie Woman in Gold is only a bronze, but I disagree. Rick and I saw it yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Helen Mirren plays Maria Altmann and Ryan Reynolds plays her lawyer Randol Schoenberg as they try to reclaim art that is rightfully Maria's from the Austrian government after it was stolen by the Nazis. Rick and I learned later that beginning on the evening of April 15 and ending on the evening of April 16 is Holocaust Remembrance Day, though we did not realize it till today.
This film was a valuable reminder that "the past is just as important as the present" as we learn from the good choices and the terrible choices people made and their impact on each other and the world then and today. I recall somberly walking through the Dachau concentration camp in Germany several years ago and trying to comprehend how one human could be so inhuman toward another. I still cannot fathom it.
We are not alone in our choices and actions. What we do and say matters even if our sphere of influence is small. We don't have to be perfect, but we do have to try to be kind, honest, respectful, and caring individuals who think not only about themselves but about others as well.
Remember now what once was
Repeat not what was cruel and inhuman
Remember to grieve with those in pain
Repeat kindness and love unfeigned

Thumbs up for the movie and its compelling story.
